You don't have to have a big backyard to have a garden of your own! Usually people only think to include a garden once they make a large amount of space for this, but having an indoor garden, you're fitting a garden towards the whatever bit of space you have. Whether you want a herb garden to boost your kitchen, or some flowers and plants to brighten up the space, all you need to have an indoor garden is really a window with a few light!

Aside from figuring out the aesthetic that you would like, you need to choose where to place your plants according to where they'll best thrive. Plants that need lots of sun, such as herbs, would be best suited for north or north-east-facing windows, while most other indoors plants originate from tropical or sub-tropical climates and so they're accustomed to soaking up the sun's rays through dim, tree-covered locales. These indoor plants do better facing east or west, and will do just fine in a room which you may at first think is simply too dark. There's also some plants that need a lot of water-such as ferns-and these would do very best in a bathroom, where they are able to absorb all the moisture they require.

Watering techniques will also be an important part of keeping the indoor garden alive. You cannot rely on rainfall to water your plants indoors! Ensure that all your pots of holes in the bottom, and for the most effective watering, place the pot inside a dish filled with water. This enables water to get directly to the main from the plant, and it is especially effective for delicate plants. Misting is another great method to keep your garden growing! Get a spray bottle and use water to occasionally mist your plants, particularly if the air in your house is dry. Do not get too excited with all of these watering techniques though-over-watering is definitely an absolutely plant-killer! Before watering, press your finger into the soil to feel for moisture-if it's moist it's doing just fine; you simply need to water if the soil feels dry.

So just keep these tips in your mind while you're getting started your indoor garden watching as the house becomes changed into an attractive outdoor-inspired oasis!
