I have been receiving the quest for a brand new foundation, and also have recently discovered that there are more types than I thought possible! Sure, everyone knows about the traditional liquids, the greater recent mineral powders, and also the advent of the BB and CC creams. But there are even more types you would have it, and just how do I find the right color match and the right formula?

  • Color – Trial and error is the way to go. If you're shopping higher-end brands, you are able to more than likely test them out in a counter before actually purchasing. If you are looking at drugstore brands, you have to take your best guess, which could get pricey. But if you've got a feel for your skin's undertone (warm, cool, or neutral), you can begin to narrow it down just a little.
  • Formula – This one could be tricky too. Overall, there are specific “rules” about which skin types need which formulas. But you can work together with your skin instead of fighting it. For instance, if you would like to use the loose mineral powders but you have dried-out skin that appears flaky under the powder, consider using a light moisturizer or serum underneath to smooth and nourish your skin. For those who have oilier skin but would really like a conventional liquid, you can layer a primer underneath or set the building blocks with powder on the top.

I have been trying several different Etsy creators and also have yet to land the perfect match – that wonderful mixture of color, finish, and SPF coverage. Among the difficulties I have encounter is always that since SPF claims are regulated by the FDA, Etsy retailers cannot make hard claims. I might end up switching my way of thinking to a more traditional brand because of this alone.
