While blush can be somewhat straightforward to choose, eyeshadow is a whole different pastime. There are thousands of colors and formulas and finishes to select from. I suspect this is exactly why so many either skip it altogether or get a drawerful of shadows they never touch. It may be formidable to see a palette full of colors with no idea how you can wear which. Or in the case of the one you use every single day, your preferred shades go out before the rest.

But how to choose the right shades? Once you evaluate which colors perform best, you can save your time and effort and cash and stop purchasing the wrong ones. Save it for the best ones!

  • Typically, colors that sit opposite on the color wheel look best together. Which means that unlike some advice, for optimum impact and effect, blue eyes should not wear blue eyeshadow.
  • Blue eyes: A range of colors are perfect to accent those baby blues. Peach, purple, wine, and gray eyeshadows make blue eyes sparkle. Silver is particularly beautiful with blue eyes.
  • Green and hazel eyes: Peach, grey, plum, and burgundy emphasize the various shades that make up hazel and green eyes.
  • Brown eyes: Brown eyes can wear just about any shade, but copper, lavender, violet, and olive really make them pop.

One of the more difficult reasons for eyeshadow is also picking the different shades to put on together. If you're a new comer to this, try to pick shades of the identical color initially.

There can also be the option of playing with neutrals. That doesn't necessarily mean boring though; there are plenty of beautiful shades of nude, taupe, peach, bone, and ivory that you could really play around with them also.
