Whether you are hosting the party or simply attending one, it can be very difficult to maintain a nutritious diet once the holiday season is upon us. Being mentally prepared might help prevent the temptation to hold out near the tray of homemade fudge!
- Try to plan ahead. Knowing you are attending a soiree later at night, be sure you eat extra-healthy throughout the rest of the day. Also, giving your healthy snack such as low-fat string cheese or apple slices ahead of time will help keep the hunger at bay. And once the hunger is incorporated in the background, we are all less likely to reach for that heaping plate of chips and queso.
- Keep on your portion control. When there is one available, grab an inferior plate so that it looks more full when you put on the tasty treats. And concentrate on the fruits and vegetables should there be some available.
- Watch out for the bartender. Alternate each drink having a glass of water (a great plan even though you aren't watching your waistline), and you'll be less lured to drink that extra glass of vino.
- Keep yourself from the food. It sounds so obvious, but once you've your little plate of treats and your glass of vino, proceed to another part of the party so you aren't constantly tempted by seconds and thirds.
Obviously, if you are the hostess, it will be much easier to manage what food and alcohol choices are available. And when you will want lots of healthy choices for you and your guests, make sure to throw in bite-size cookies and at least oen creamy vegetable dip so that there is something for every palette.
