I had a four-day weekend trip planned, and I decided to travel with no suitcase. It was mostly an informal trip so I thought it might be a great venue to try out a few of the theories and tricks I have been reading in travel blogs. I took a small crossbody purse and my trusty Jansport backpack. Not probably the most glamorous and surely sturdy.

And it worked!

The purse held our normal purse items such as my wallet, phone, lip balm, and notepad. I was not overly concerned about needing a bigger purse than what I'd planned.

But Used to do manage to fit everything else in to the backpack, including several magazines to read on the flight. Here are some tips that made it work for me:

  • I tend to let my magazines stack up, but they are great to see on the plane. I simply tear off the address label after which I can just leave playboy on the plane when I'm finished.
  • I cannot remember the last trip I took without my trusty Eagle Creek packing cubes. They are not airtight but still have the ability to compress my clothing quite nicely. I took a complete size cube for actual clothing . 5 size cube for my undergarments. The main portion of the backpack held both of these, my toiletries bag, and a pair of black flats.
  • The medium front portion of the backpack held a zipper bag with my phone charger and my earbuds in addition to a hostess gift, a lotion bar, and my keys on the key clip.
  • In the leading small section, I had nothing but my 3-1-1 Ziploc for simple access through security.

All in most, I loved how simple it had been to visit this way.
